about
When I was around 10 years old, I was on a field trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. I remember standing by myself studying a series of four paintings by Thomas Cole called "The Voyage of Life," depicting a man's life in childhood, youth, manhood, and old age. It really made an impression on me as I was fascinated that this may be what my life may be like. As my life unfolded, I understood the wisdom of the paintings, and I was inspired to write a song called "Four Paintings" about my memory of experiencing this work of art.
lyrics
You've been here only one short year
Not a reason for a fear
What awaits, but all the world
A journey waiting to unfold
The river is calm, your vision ahead
Eager to leave your childhood
Embracing change and challenges
With youthful trust and hopefulness
You're on
Your own
On your own at last
Alone
Four paintings, see the future
Four paintings from the past
I'm praying for help, when will it come?
I'm far from home, what have I done?
The troubles seem too much to bear
I wish I knew someone that cared
You're on
Your own
On your own at last
Alone
Four paintings, see the future
Four paintings from the past
We're old now near death wondering
The end, the journey finishing
It's dark now, we look to the sky
A small bright light is beckoning
Oh, Oh, Oh
Your guardian angel is always there
Watching you though you're not aware
Our prayers are heard, do not despair
We'll make it through, trust the Savior
Our prayers are heard, do not despair
We'll make it through, trust the Savior

I started playing drums in rock and jazz bands on the East Coast in the 1970s. After moving to Los Angeles in the 1980s, I
was inspired to create my own music, so I bought a keyboard and started writing, transitioning away from gigging as a drummer. Recently I started the process of recording and releasing material written over the years, as an indie artist in the Los Angeles area....more
